Exploding the University is an independent quadrennial summer school for graduates we have taught* who are interested in socially and critically engaged design. Located at a different site each year, the four-day summer school aims to respond to urgent and current cultural, social and political issues.

Exploding the University 2020 will take place in Bristol and will focus on the subject of housing and speculation (THIS HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19). 2016’s summer school dealt with the immediate aftermath of the EU Referendum Leave result and took place at the Llysdinman Field Centre in collaboration with A Sustainable Place.

*This summer school was set up to: create a situation of mutual support beyond the structure of a three year degree; to preserve a working relationship with individuals we have taught and taught alongside; to encourage and support graduates in maintaining a critical and self-directed practice.
